Roger Jackson: profile
Qualifications: LTA Level 3 registered development coach.
Experience: 15 years coaching experience.
Tennis experience: I have played for 46 years, so I must love playing tennis! I started playing at Manor Heath at the age of ten with my twin brother, then I moved on to play at Queens Sports Club, Halifax.
Personal achievements: I have won the Men’s Singles Championship at Queens Sports Club (Halifax) and many other titles, including the Mixed Doubles and Men’s Doubles. I am the current Calderdale League Over 40s champion, a title I have won 15 times.
Coaching history: I started to help with coaching at Queens Sports club in 1999 and passed my Level 3 coaching qualification in 2001. I became the coach at Rastrick Tennis Club in 2002, where I worked until I joined Oakfield in 2016. I have coached successfully over the years, resulting in juniors who have moved on from Mini Tennis Red to successfully competing in the adult teams.
In 2015, in the Huddersfield League the Rastrick Intermediate Team were runners up in Division 1 to Thongsbridge and the Junior Team also finished mid table in division 1 in the junior league. In previous years, I was a regular coach at local Rastrick schools promoting tennis to children in their early years.
I hope the people I coach will enjoy the same competitive, social and fun time playing tennis that I have had over the years. Most of all, though, I aim to promote tennis as the sport I believe in.
